Course
descriptions:
Lehigh xc:
The course is approximately 6
miles in length. The course starts on
top of lehigh’s south mountain. The start will be lemond
style. The first quarter mile is a fast
downhill fireroad, which turns quickly into a short
technical single track climb. A long
single track descent ensues, which is littered with rock gardens, small
bridges, quick climbs, and tight turns.
This continues to the bottom of the mountain, where a flowing single
track section opens into a half mile flat fire road. This road leads into a blistering single
track climb that continues up half of the mountain, and dumps into a short
semi-flat section of rock gardens. The
final ascent includes a technical climb with switchbacks the will be sure to
multiply as your laps increase.
Eventually you’ll see daylight, and return to the start for another go
at it.
Reading dh / freeride course:
(A post by pro
rider jay de jesus)
"I rode the Reading Racing race
course today with the Reading team, Jon from Hcor.net, Bob Brien,
Gabor and his crew, Mt. Gretna people; all in all
about 30 people. Oh, not to mention the camera crew there shooting video for
Chain Reaction VI with a wide angle plus another camera mounted on a 7'
extension that was wired to these funky Star Trek goggles the guy was wearing
that allowed him to see what the camera up the pole was shooting. The camera
swiveled and turned via thumb mounted joysticks -- sick!
Sickest of all was the course -- those guys have done an
amazing job. It starts at the top of Mount Penn, rips through some rock nasties, does a step down gap (7' x 7' down) onto a road to
the Pagoda, then down the steps around it, to the bridges. There is an easy
set-up bridge which drops you down into a chute which raises your speed to
about 30+, then you rail a berm
and face your choice of bridge drops. There is a 4' step-down that shoots you
out about 6'. Another choice is more heart stopping -- about 10' down to the
transition, moderate speed, and about a 7' to 10' span, depending on how you
boost. The real show is the middle line -- you come out of the berm at warp factor 5, hit a 4' tall ramp and GAP onto the
30' long bridge (at over 30mph, yo) hang on and
launch out clear over the road and all the people about 30' and then rip into a
succession of "S" turns. It is BAD ASS! And it is really scary. Only
about 7 people jumped it (most certainly not including myself), including a nut
with a single-crown fork and another guy that is 47 years old on a Brooklyn
Machine Works bike. With this gap, it is definitely not about the bike...
From there, there are more killer lines, berms,
jumps gaps, trees, rocks -- nasty nasty
nasty. The last stunt is the finish line jump off of
the Red Bull bus, which will be parked at the bandshell
at the base of the mountain and the park. It will be an incredible race. Look
for some video and photos on Hcor.net shortly."
